A fundraiser for 4-H youngsters
The People’s Choice quilt blocks have become a favorite part of the Greene County Fair, with area quilters making blocks and fair-goers voting for their favorite at 1 cent a vote. The funds brought in by voting has always been donated to the 4-H program in Greene County to be used to help members pay extra expenses for special activities such as camp, educational trips, etc.
At the 2014 fair, a suggestion was made to pout the donated People’s Choice quilt blocks together to make a quilt, and then sell it by raffle tickets. Suzanne Sievers used the 2014 blocks to create a queen size quilt as well as donating the backing and doing the quilting to get the idea moving. “Suzanne really needs lots of thanks from all of us for this outstanding donation to the youth of Greene County,” another organizer said.
The quilt was on display at the Greene County Extension office and is now at the Stitch just west of the Greene County historical museum. Raffle tickets are available at the Extension office, the Stitch, or from Cherie Roquet. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
Tickets will also be available during the County Fair at Clover Hall. The drawing will be done Sunday, July 12, at 2:30 pm at Clover Hall. The winner does not need to be present at the drawing.
